This is the 21 Card trick:
I’m not sure if you count counting out any 21 random cards as preparing but that’s not the trick anyway. You could even have the person about to get tricked count them out. Remember: You are person A, the person about to get tricked is person B, also the faster you do this the cooler it is, and also the less chance they’ll figure it out.
1.Tell person B to pick one card out of the deck of only 21 cards and remember the card but don’t tell anyone. Hide it back in the deck in any random place. Make a big show of shuffling the 21 cards after that to make sure you weren’t just watching to see where he hid the card in the deck.
2.Now here’s the first hard part. Put down 3 cards one next to each other (heading towards the right) make 3 columns by putting one card just a little bit below the other one so you can still read the one before it. So put one card in each column row by row in the same order. The card that person B chose will be in one of those columns. Tell person B not to say anything when his/her card is put down, but when you ask person B what column it is in say not to point to the actual card, just the column.
3.Pull all of these columns in to 3 piles, making sure not to mix them up. The card-pile that person B pointed to must be sandwiched in between the other two piles.
4.Repeat 2 and 3 2 more times. Meaning 3 times in all.
5.Now make seven piles of three cards, pile after another spreading them out just enough to see the three cards that are upside-down. Remember the fourth pile you made. That is very important.
6.Tell person B to point to three card piles. If person B does NOT point to the fourth pile you made take away the 3 piles, but if person B DOES point to the fourth pile keep those piles and take away the others. Keep doing that but saying point to 2 piles, or 1 pile instead. Keep doing that until the only pile left is the fourth pile you made.
7.Now spread out the three cards. Don’t lose track of the card in the middle, that is important. Now say something like point to 2 cards, if person B points to the middle card take the other card away, but if person B doesn’t point to the middle card take the cards person B pointed to away. Keep doing this until you only have one card left. Then pick up the card and say “Is this you card?” If they say yes then congratulations! You have done this correctly!
