Can I apply to law school if I file bankruptcy? I am applying to an evening law school program, and there was a question regarding bankruptcy to determine moral and ethic fitness. Unfortunately, I am in the process of getting a divorce, and it appears I will retain a lot of debt in order to retain custody of my daugter. I know I can’t discharge student loans, but would a law school accept me if I file bankruptcy? I
It all depends on how many spot they have and how many applicants apply. They evaluated based on GPA, test scores and your application. The fact that you file will be a strike against you, just like a ding on your credit score. It all depends on how strong you are in the other areas. You can always speak to the admissions office and see what your chances of getting accepted are before applying. You may also want to discuss your situation. This should give you an idea of where you stand, but if they flat out ask the question they must hold it in high esteem. References :
