I have been having some problems storing my vegetables in my fridge. I live in an apartment and my fridge is rather small. Additionally the fridge does not have a crisper drawer, rather just some storage drawers.
Does anyone have advice on how to store my vegetables in the fridge? Should I use a paper bag, a cheese cloth? Does a plastic bag have too much moisture and promote mold?
It really depends on the vegetable. One vegetable that typically goes bad in the fridge is celery. To make it last longer, you should take it out of the plastic that it comes in, wrap it in aluminum foil, and then put it back in the plastic bag. It will last 3 times longer if you store it that way.
Removing carrot and beet tops will help prevent wilting.
For corn, take the corn out of any plastic bag, and just leave them unhusked in the refrigerator.
Most vegetables will need a plastic bag if they are not stored in the crisper. The reason the crisper works is because there is less circulation of the air, so the vegetables avoid wilting longer.

Throw a paper towel in there with the veggies. I usually just buy frozen, they keep better and you can get more variety for less.

Just remember that cold air is heavier so it sinks to the bottom of your fridge. keep your veggies on the bottom shelf. Keep them in the plastic they came in and don’t buy more than you can use quickly.

First thing you do is take them out of the plastic bag. Wash them and dry them real good so there is no more moisture. Place them in a paper bag and store them in the bottom drawer. If you are not going to use them within few days, then I suggest that you freeze them in airtight containers.

Lettuces store best in a covered container with a strainer, so the moisture runs off. Herbs should be rinsed and dried then wrapped in paper towels and stored in a plastic freezer bag. Carrots are best in their original package, broccoli and cauliflower usually last a long time in a plastic bag. Potatoes, tomatoes, onions and garlic should never be stored in the fridge!!
